Your trip to Curaçao is booked, your vacation rental is sorted, and then comes the practical question: what should you actually pack – and what is already provided in a vacation rental in Curaçao?
A vacation home is different from a hotel. You usually have more space, your own kitchen and often a washing machine, terrace or garden. But that does not mean every household item or travel essential will automatically be there.
What is included varies from one property to another. Bed linen, towels and a equipped kitchen are common, while beach towels, washing machines, hair dryers, coffee supplies, cleaning products and beach gear can differ.
Our best tip: check the listing before you pack, or simply ask your host what is provided. It can save a surprising amount of suitcase space.
Quick answer for U.S. and Canadian travelers
Most Curaçao vacation rentals provide bed linens, bath towels and a kitchen with basic cookware, but beach towels, laundry facilities, toiletries, coffee supplies, beach gear and utility costs vary by property. If you are traveling from the U.S. or Canada, Curaçao’s common Type A outlets will look familiar and many North American plugs fit without an adapter. Always check the rental’s outlet setup and your device voltage before you travel, because some properties also have European 220V outlets.
For the lightest packing list, confirm five things before departure: beach towels, washing machine, hair dryer, coffee maker, and whether water and electricity are included. Then pack personal toiletries, sunscreen, insect repellent, medications and any beach gear your rental does not provide.
Are bed linen, towels and beach towels provided?
Most vacation rentals provide bed linen and regular bath towels, so you normally do not need to pack sheets, pillowcases or bath towels.
Beach towels are less universal. Some properties provide them and others do not, so check before you travel. Large beach towels take up a lot of luggage space.
In our vacation homes, bed linen, regular towels and beach towels are provided, so you can leave those at home.
What is usually in the kitchen of a Curaçao vacation rental?
One of the advantages of renting a vacation home is having your own kitchen. Many vacation rentals therefore include the basics you need to prepare meals.

A microwave, oven, dishwasher, air fryer, toaster or Nespresso machine is not standard everywhere. If there is something you use every day, check the property amenities or ask your host before departure.
Are coffee, spices and groceries included?
This is where expectations can differ. An equipped kitchen usually means you can cook there; it does not necessarily mean the cupboards are stocked.
You may find salt, pepper, oil, coffee or sugar left in the home, but it is better to see that as a bonus rather than something to rely on.
At our vacation homes we do provide a few coffee capsules, so you do not have to rush to the supermarket immediately after arrival and can enjoy coffee at home on your first morning.
Other supplies such as tea, kitchen paper, foil, spices, oil and dishwasher tablets can vary. Also check which type of coffee machine is available – buying Senseo pads for a Nespresso machine is not the best start to the morning.
Are toilet paper, shower gel and shampoo provided?
A starter supply of toilet paper is often available when you arrive. A vacation rental, however, does not work like a hotel where consumables are continually replenished during your stay.
Shower gel and shampoo are usually not standard in a private vacation rental. Bring your own or buy them after arrival in Curaçao.
Are garbage bags provided?
Garbage bags are often available in vacation rentals. In Curaçao they are particularly useful: heat, food scraps and a tropical climate are a good reason not to leave kitchen waste sitting around for days.
Changing the garbage bag daily when it contains food waste helps keep ants and other pests away. The same goes for fruit scraps, empty food packaging and spilled sweet drinks: clean them up promptly.
Are cleaning supplies provided?
Basic items such as dishwashing liquid, a sponge, broom and garbage bags are often available, and there may be additional cleaning products in the home.
You are on vacation, so nobody expects a major cleaning session. But on a longer stay it is useful to be able to sweep, wipe down the kitchen or quickly clean up a spill.
Does a vacation rental in Curaçao have a washing machine?
Many private vacation homes in Curaçao have a washing machine. In a tropical climate, that is one of the most useful amenities because it allows you to pack considerably less clothing.
Laundry detergent is not included everywhere. In our vacation homes, detergent is available for our guests.
Is there a hair dryer, iron or ironing board?
A hair dryer may be available, but it is not standard everywhere. The same applies to an iron and ironing board – especially worth checking in advance if you really cannot do without them.
It makes little sense to carry a heavy hair dryer across the Atlantic if one is already waiting in the bathroom cabinet.
What should you look for if you are staying longer or spending the winter in Curaçao?
If you are staying for several weeks or months rather than one or two weeks, practical amenities become much more important. A semi-long-term rental starts to feel like your temporary home.
For a longer stay, we would at least look for:
a washing machine
enough kitchen equipment for everyday cooking
good basic cleaning equipment
Do not look only at the number of bedrooms, the pool or the terrace. Ask yourself whether you can easily do laundry, cook properly and keep the home comfortable during a longer stay.
Do U.S. and Canadian travelers need a power adapter in Curaçao?
Usually, not for the plug itself. Curaçao commonly uses Type A outlets, the same two-flat-pin style used in the United States and Canada. The island’s standard supply is about 110–130V at 50Hz, so many North American phone chargers, laptop chargers and other modern electronics can plug in and work normally when their input label supports the local voltage and frequency.
However, accommodations can differ. Some vacation rentals, hotels and apartments also have European-style 220V outlets. Check the outlets at your specific rental before arrival, especially for hair dryers, styling tools or other higher-powered appliances.
If your device is marked 100–240V, 50/60Hz, it is generally designed for international voltage and frequency ranges. A plug adapter only changes the plug shape; it does not convert voltage. When in doubt, check the device label or manufacturer instructions before plugging it in.
Does every vacation rental in Curaçao have air conditioning?
No. Air conditioning is common in Curaçao, but that does not mean every room has it. Many vacation homes have air conditioning in the bedrooms and rely on natural ventilation, ceiling fans or the trade winds in the living areas. Others also have air conditioning in the living room.
Electricity is relatively expensive in Curaçao, and many private vacation rentals charge actual water and electricity usage separately. Check the booking conditions before you reserve.
Are beach towels and beach gear included in Curaçao vacation rentals?
This varies considerably. Some vacation homes provide a cooler, beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear or ice packs, but these are not standard amenities everywhere.
Ask before filling your suitcase with beach gear. Depending on your plans, water shoes, snorkel equipment, a reusable water bottle and a sand-and-water-friendly beach bag can be useful.
Should you bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent to Curaçao?
Sunscreen and mosquito repellent are normally not standard vacation-rental supplies, and both are useful in Curaçao. The sun is strong even when the trade winds make the temperature feel comfortable. Mosquito activity varies by season and location and can increase after rain.
You can buy both on the island, but if you use a particular brand or have sensitive skin, bringing your own can be convenient.
Do you need to bring groceries to Curaçao?
For normal groceries, no. Curaçao has large supermarkets and you can find almost everything you need for a vacation, including many Dutch products. Imported products can sometimes be more expensive than you are used to.
If you need something very specific for a diet, allergy or preferred brand, it may be worth bringing it with you, provided it is allowed under baggage and import rules.
What can you leave at home when staying in a Curaçao vacation rental?
In a well-equipped vacation rental you can often leave bed linen, regular towels, pots, dishes, cutlery and many household basics at home. If beach towels are provided, leave those behind too. And if your vacation home has a washing machine, you can probably pack fewer clothes than you think.
